Reverse Mortgages: Challenges, Issues, and Opportunities

The Financial Education Network (FEN) convenes regular meetings for representatives of nonprofit organizations, banks, and governments in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware who provide financial education to low- and moderate-income residents.

This meeting provided an overview of reverse mortgages, including the FHA-insured home equity conversion mortgage (HECM), and offered the perspectives of two financial institutions and two housing counselors. It also provided insight into the recession’s impact on HECMs and the future of the HECM program.
